We are currently in immediate need of one great volunteer in Portland Art Museum's Discovery Center. The Discovery Center offers Museum visitors a place to learn more about the art and artists represented in the Museum's exhibitions and collections. Designed as a drop-in place to relax and learn, the Discovery Center invites people of all ages and learning styles to discover more about art.Through objects on display, books, puzzles and hands-on activities, visitors can also explore art-related subjects such as materials and techniques, cross-cultural themes, and the contexts in which artists create. Volunteers in the Discovery Center function as a point of contact for visitors. As a volunteer you would be in charge of greeting visitors, engaging children and adults in conversation and activities, as well as pointing people toward help by giving directions, research advice, and just simply the permission to approach and interact with the art.The Discovery Center environment ranges in character from very busy to very slow, so an ability to enjoy both active and peaceful times is appreciated. Discovery Center volunteers work 2-1/2 hour shifts weekly or every other week.We ask that volunteers make a minimum of a 6 month commitment. Currently, we need volunteers for the following shift: Sunday afternoon (every other week), 12:00-2:30 pm If you are interested, please respond to this post and we can set up a time to interview. Hope to hear from you! Take Care, Jillian
