ORGANIZATION PROFILE: The Custer Battlefield Museum is located in Garryowen, Montana. The museum's mission is to educate the general public on the Western Migration Movement and expansion which occurred in the 19th century, and the Battle of the Little Big Horn. This institution also collects, preserves, and exhibits original artifacts, beadwork, photographs, paintings, rare books, and manuscripts related to Custer, the Battle of the Little Big Horn, and other frontier subjects. Extensive exhibits of ephemera belonging to Sitting Bull, G.A. Custer, Tom Custer, Crazy Horse,

Docent/Internship position with the Custer Battlefield Museum in beautiful Garryowen, Montana, May - September 2008. Responsibilities include assisting the Director, admissions, answering questions, giving directions, and educating tourists in all aspects of the famous Battle of the Little Big Horn. There are several opportunities within the museum to serve your interests. The internship is an unpaid position, 30-40 hours per week. The museum averages 100+ visitors daily. Benefits include a meal allowance and a room in the historic town of Garryowen, located on the Crow Indian Reservation. A tremendous on-site educational opportunity living in the wide open spaces of Montana! REQUIREMENTS:
Must be 21 years of age or older
High school diploma and some college
Enjoy interacting and comfortable with meeting people
Personable, outgoing
Reliable, responsible
Docent should have a working knowledge of American history and a desire to learn.
Capable of learning new material rapidly and willing to spend time and expend the effort necessary to study material.
Able to work independently
Able to accept supervision
Ability to speak comfortably
Physically able to lead tours around the museum
Enthusiastic and flexible
